My name is Rachel Jones, and I am an Interior Designer with a huge passion for anything interiors related, colourful, fun and that makes you smile!

I am based in Aspley Guise in Bedfordshire, but I work across the UK supporting homeowners creating wonderful spaces to live in. You can connect with me through all the usual social media channels:

What does an interior designer do?

What do you actually do? I get that question often BUT actually it’s a valid question. Unless you have had the opportunity to work with an Interior Designer then you wouldn’t necessarily know what it is we do.

The end goal for me is to create a home/room/workspace that you truly love, and that makes you smile! It must be about what you want it to look like, feel like, function like, and not about what I would necessarily put in my home – I design for you, not for me.

A good designer will extract the information you have stored away in your brain and find a way to interpret what you want to achieve.

But what do you do?

I can design any space you want, whether that be the entrance/hallway, Kitchen, Dining Room, WC, Bathroom, Ensuite, Sitting Room, Family Room, Library, Gym, Office, Bedrooms, garden rooms, loft conversions, extensions – the list goes on.
I will design a single space or a whole property. This can include the colour scheme which would include paint, wallpaper, fabrics, carpets, tiling and flooring and the metal finishes for handles, sockets & switches, and lighting. It can include furniture and lighting. This could be off the shelf items or designed by me and made to meet your exacting requirements.

As an Interior Designer I don’t just design the colour scheme. A big part of my role as a Designer is spatial planning. Spatial Planning is about making the space flow, to maximise every inch of space and to create harmony between spaces. I can take the framework of a property, remove walls, rebuild walls, move electrics, move plumbing, change the lighting, create space, create storage. I listen to what you want to achieve and identify the solution.
My role as your Interior Designer is to ensure that the finishing touches and the functionality of a room are considered. This isn’t about the accessories to go on your shelves, although I will also help with that, it is about the location of your lighting, switches, and sockets, it is about the tile trim and grout colours used in your bathrooms, do you need dual fuel towel radiators in your bathrooms that will work when the heating isn’t on. Do you need a space for the dog to sleep! Yes, I will make your rooms beautiful but I will also make them practical.

What happens next?

Depending on the size of the project I will come visit the property and take a brief to understand what help you need from me. This allows me to put together the fee proposal and breakdown the work I will undertake for you. If you are happy to go ahead, I will visit again to take the full design brief and measure up the property. I often ask my clients to complete a questionnaire beforehand so that it gives me a feel for the clients’ design style.

There is a process that we follow – The Design Process – Below shows the stages of each process to take you up to Installation.

From here, I am also able to run your project for you. This would include purchasing of the products, sourcing tradesman and managing the day to day running of the installation.

This may be more than you need, therefore I offer a Colour Consultation Service. For just £225 for up to two hours, I come along with a collection of fabrics, paints, wallpapers and together we will create a scheme for 1 or 2 rooms. I will offer recommendations for lighting and layout solutions and build confidence in you to take your project forward.

This is a great way to dip your toe into using the services of an Interior Designer.

How do I find my clients:

As a relatively new business, I decided networking was the way forward. I love people, I love meeting people and I am very happy to talk about my love of interior design and share my passion. Busy Women Networking was introduced to me just as I was looking for the right group to join. I initially went along to BWN Milton Keynes as a visitor and was quite apprehensive about a women only group having had a disappointing experience previously. BUT I knew before the end of the meeting that this was the right group for me!
The women were professional, supportive, empathetic, and above all like-minded who were there to drive their businesses, share your business and build not just working relationships but personal relationships. I can now say that I have a new friendship group and it is growing!

I have taken the opportunity to visit as many groups as I can, to ensure that I extend and build my business and personal relationships. I have found support for my business in terms of social media training, business accounting, branding and website marketing. I have had referrals as well as clients within the network. On a personal level I have worked with many of the businesses too. A win win for everyone.
